Howe’s Tour Journal

fribourg, switzerland – november 30

we keep missing the snow, but the fields outside that sparkle in the sunshine are thick with it.

then it gets darker upon arrival. the venue is dank and dour. a student type club. they are sweet. i am cold. tired. crawl off to sleep. and then later, sleep some more.
the drat of getting wakened to go on stage. exactly like waking early in the morning late to get to work. and then hitting the stage as if it were 7:00 in the morning, ready to punch the clock, but not quite up and running.

the first ¾ of the set was magnificent. tried a new stomp of a swamp thing that spell bound the band and listeners alike. all the record songs were great. good delivery all in all and the band was firey. until near the end and then there were casualties. the ridiculously easy “paradise here abouts” was just ridiculously out of time and never could catch up with itself. and it was all my fault. and kinda entertaining for the band to witness the impossibility of its rhythm and spew.

anyhow … i was beat. another good night, but still so sleepy. lucie was back on board again from her other french gig, and her and lonna sounded like they saved the lives of several songs within our set tonight.

finally when the night was put to rest, and all was quiet. went for a long walk into the frigid landscape of the dead town. climbed a pine tree, but not too high up. we sat there for a while and pondered the silence and quirk of humans at this hour of reflection. we were aliens putting in the last observations of the day of this foreign planet.

the end.
